Dhanush's Velai Illa Pattathari aka VIP is declared as the most profitable movie of the year by the trade pundits in terms of returns on Investment(ROI). VIP's Total Budget including the print and promotional cost should be less than INR 10 crores, The worldwide theatrical collections alone ended up above INR 50 crores, that is (5x) 5 times exceeding the total Budget!! So, undoubtedly it accumulated massive profit for all the parties involved, from the producer to distributor to the theater owners! Another added advantage is that there was no entertainment tax imposed on the movie, so the profit margin was huge for the distributors in the Home circuit( Tamil Nadu)

 Velai Illla pattathari also turned out to be the biggest blockbuster for Dhanush in few overseas countries like Malaysia, U.S.A etc. 

Apart from the total Theatrical collections, that is the Total Gross of around INR 50 Crores Worldwide made on a budget less than INR 10 crores, The movie also minted lump sum amount from Non theatrical revenues like Satellite rights, Audio rights, Remake and other rights etc and the total revenue including the theatrical collections should be around INR 65 crores!

So "VIP" made on a budget of less than 10 crores managed to Amass Total revenues (from all forms) around INR 65 crores!! That 6.5 times more than total budget!!
