Movies that Made Impact at the Box Office - FIRST HALF OF 2014
TAMIL MOVIES - FIRST HALF OF 2014

January 2014, all witnessed the clash between the Titans, it was "Veeram" vs "Jilla", the result was what one could call it as a "tie", since both the movie's made big collections, but what played spoilsport otherwise what could have been a win-win situation for all parties was the 30% Entertainment tax levied upon both the movies! yes despite managing to get big collections, both the movies ended up being above average Grosser's. Calculating on the basis of investment with regard to budget and distribution rights price, veeram was slightly a profitable movie just marginally ahead of Jilla, Jilla too enjoyed good collections, but since there was no tax exemption, Jilla and veeram declared as Above Average ventures at the Box office. The next movie which made everyone turn their heads towards it was "Golisoda" - Goilsoda is a profitable movie for all the parties, but its gross collections did not exceed INR 20 crores, being a small budget movie Golisoda made huge profit for all parties and verdict was "Hit".
February 2014 - "Idhu kathirvelan Kadhal" which got the appreciation of Family audience ended up being an Above average grosser. "Thegidi" another small budget movie made a big impact at the Box office- It turned out to be a "Sleeper Hit" movie.
March 2014 - "Cuckoo" another small budget movie made a big impact, critics praised the movie and cuckoo turned out to be an Above Average movie at the box office.
April 2014 - "Maan Karate" despite getting mixed reviews from critics and audience managed to do well at the box office turning out to be an "Hit". Vishal's Naan Sigappu Manithan despite getting good ratings fared decently at the Box office ending up as an above average grosser
May 2014 - Yaamirukka Bayamey which was made on a shoestring budget turned out to be one of the better "Hits" this season. The movie ended up as a "Super Hit". Kochadaiiyan turned out to be very average at the box office considering its huge budget and rights price.
June 2014 - Another low budget flick "Manjapai" turned out to be a decent hit at the box office. Mundasuppati and Vadacurry both fared well at the box office.
Many other movies which had big expectations in 2014 like "Rummy" "Aaha Kalyanam" "Bramman" failed to make an impression at the Box office, where as movies like Pannaiyaarum padminiyum, Nimirndhu Nil, Vallinam and Vaayai Moodi Peasavum, Yennamo Nadakkudhu got good ratings from critics but ended up being Average at the Box office!
